Visual storytelling - Our World in Figures

The three things I nerd out about most are biology, coding, and visualisations. I am happiest when they come together. I have always been a visual learner—seeing or sketching helps me understand. For me, working visually is not just a way to communicate science, it is how I think, analyze, and make sense of it.

I create visualizations for my own publications, talks, and posters, and colleagues often turn to me for help with theirs. I have designed logos for projects and research groups, including our own, made short videos for key papers (e.g. here and here), and regularly share my passion for visual storytelling, along with tips and tools, in science communication classes, reaching over two hundred participants annually. These audiences include students, PhD schools, early career networks such as SIIECS, large research collaborations like The Nansen Legacy, and institute-wide events at places such as the von Thünen Institute in Germany."

I have received multiple awards at major international conferences from hundreds of participants for talks and posters recognised for their scientific merit and effective visualisations.
