Fulori Vakalutusau Nainoca-Waqairagata

I have a background in marine science, natural resource management and conservation, and community development.

I graduated with a BSc degree in Environmental Studies in 1999 and an MSc Degree in 2014, at the University of the South Pacific. My MSc research provided the first scientific evidence of the link between locally managed marine areas, herbivorous fish abundance and the control of algal overgrowth in Fiji. My professional experience spans 22 years of project management and implementation in the area of marine biodiversity and resource management; and academic research administration. Prior to that I have three years teaching experience at secondary level. I have excellent communication skills in terms of technical writing as well as project management, teamwork and leadership.

I have a keen interest in nature and the environment, and particularly enjoy working to foster greater environmental awareness amongst local communities. My long-term goal is to build capacity in the area of biodiversity conservation and natural resource management with a view to fostering greater community participation in the sustainable use of the Pacific’s natural resources.

I am a PhD student at University of the South Pacific at Fiji, in a joint degree program with University of Bergen.
